Tower Logistics Group, LLC uses the highest care in handling your cargo. However, there are many points in the supply chain where cargo may be lost or damaged. Your shipment may move through various providers before it reaches its final destination. For example, a single shipment may involve; consolidators, truckers at both the origin and destination, an export packer, cargo hubs, piers or terminals, multiple Customs authorities at origin, destination and intermediate points, de-consolidators and others before your shipment reaches its final destination.
Incoterms stipulates responsibility to whom is accountable for purchasing cargo insurance. However, unless the Incoterms have been approved by all parties and accepted as part of the purchase order or sales agreement between shippers and consignees, there are sometimes disputes over whether they apply or not. This matter should always be discussed between the buyer and seller and included in your purchase order or sales agreement to ensure that each knows their responsibilities. Furthermore, many customers are not aware that insurance is not included in the transport costs.
Tower Logistics Group, LLC, believes it is a prudent practice to purchase cargo insurance for your shipments and we are pleased to offer insurance through our cargo insurance provider. However, requests for cargo insurance must be made in writing as this is a prerequisite to issuing a certificate.
Additionally, many customers are not aware that an air cargo carrier, steamship carrier, or an inland carrier only has limited liability coverage and that such liability coverage is not insurance. Tower Logistics Group, LLC, highly recommends purchasing insurance through our provider or through a 3rd party provider.
Tower Logistics Group, LLC, will accept all cargo claims, but for non-insured shipments there is limited liability coverage stated on the back of each airway-bill or bill of lading. Therefore, in the majority of cases you will not receive the full commercial value of your goods for any claim unless it has been insured.
